PrEP and Safe Sex with Kirribilli Doctors
This article is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. For personalised guidance, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
At Kirribilli Doctors, we believe that good sexual health is about more than just avoiding infections — it’s about feeling informed, empowered, and supported in your choices.
Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or enjoying life somewhere in between, staying on top of your sexual health is one of the best things you can do for yourself — and your partner(s).
That’s why we think talking about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and safe sex in a supportive and inclusive environment is so important. Dr Eric Chan and Dr Jeffrey Sia have a special interest in sexual health and are here to provide respectful, judgement-free support tailored to you.
What is PrEP?
PrEP is a daily pill (or sometimes an “on-demand” option) that helps prevent HIV in people who are HIV-negative. When taken correctly, PrEP reduces the risk of HIV transmission significantly — making it one of the most effective tools we have in the fight against HIV.
It’s especially recommended for people who:
Have a partner who is HIV-positive (and not undetectable)
Have casual or multiple sexual partners
Use condoms inconsistently
Are part of a community with higher rates of HIV
How Do I Get PrEP?
If you’re interested in PrEP, the first step is simply to have a conversation with your GP. They can talk you through whether it’s right for you, answer your questions, and guide you on the next steps.
At Kirribilli Doctors, our team can support you with this process in a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment. If PrEP is a good option for you, we can also help with access through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) if you are eligible, making it more affordable.
We’ll work with you to ensure your sexual health is supported in a way that fits your lifestyle and preferences.
What About Safe Sex?
While PrEP is amazing at preventing HIV, it doesn’t protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhoea, or syphilis. That’s where condoms and regular STI screening come in.
Our team is here to help you:
Understand your personal risk
Get tested regularly (yes, even when you don’t have symptoms!)
Treat STIs early, easily, and confidentially
Have open, shame-free conversations about sex and wellbeing
We offer a safe space for LGBTQ+ patients, sex workers, and anyone wanting clear, respectful advice.
Your Health, Your Terms
Sex should be safe, consensual, and enjoyable — and looking after your sexual health is a normal part of caring for yourself.
If you’re curious about starting PrEP, due for a sexual health check, or just want to have an open chat about your options, Dr Eric Chan and Dr Jeffrey Sia would love to help.
Book an appointment at Kirribilli Doctors today — your future self (and partner(s)!) will thank you.
